GNOME

Created by maemst, modified Juli 29, 2009 at 15:28:28 CET | This project has a total of 9 feature requests with 1 comments rated at 127 points | 7 unique implementers | Readiness: 1 features with at least three implementers rated at 25 points

GNOME is an international effort to build a complete desktop environment—the graphical user interface which sits on top of a computer operating system—entirely from free software. This goal includes creating software development frameworks, selecting application software for the desktop, and working on the programs which manage application launching, file handling, and window and task management.

GNOME is part of the GNU Project and can be used with various Unix-like operating systems, most notably Linux, and as part of Java Desktop System in Solaris.

Work on Gnome-Panel to be more flexible

I'd love to see the Gnome panels become more flexible, to fit the needs of different people. Rounded corners, Icons only, no annoying padding when you uncheck expand, etc.

Refer to these mockups for some ideas:

Animated Desktop Background

This would be cool, not the most useful thing in the world but hey. Maybe support for E17 .edj wallpapers would be a good choice. Or even just displaying normal video files or animated png/gif support.

Improve contact lookup applet

The contact lookup applet is a great tool to improve efficiency having access to all Evolution contacts all the time. However, email addresses should be 'selectable' in order to cut-and-paste, an 'edit' button should lead to the contact editor and there should be a mail address template available since the current format suits only US addresses.

nautilus for animators

i deal on a regular basis with folders that have 200+ pictures in them. it would be nice if nautilus could recognize the frame padding, showing me a something like filename.1-200.tga. macosx and apples compositing program shake has a nice implementation of this.

A good note-taking or journaling software

If there's one thing that I feel lacks a lot on GNOME, its a good note taking software, like BasKet from KDE. I know there's Tomboy, but its good for its wiki-like links, and sticky like appeal. Would be nice to see something offering "more" for GNOME.

Terminal for Nautilus

I would like to have a Terminal-panel in Nautilus which automatically switches always to the folder I am currently viewing. Very similar to the Terminal-panel in Konqueror/Dolphin.

Dynamic accelerators for Totem, Sound Juicer, F-Spot and Evolution

You can't setup dynamic custom accelerators for Evolution, F-Spot and Sound Juicer. Totem renembered them just a long it is open, after a restart all custom accelerators are lost.
Please implement dynamic custom accelerators for these standard apps like for gEdit or EOG.
