About
Make Free Software development visible.
Hackontest is not a weekend of toy apps. It is a public 24-hour session where invited teams implement features the community already asked for. Projects get code. People who never read a development list can watch how FLOSS is actually made.
Who runs it
Hackontest is hosted in Switzerland as a live coding marathon in Zurich. Partners and the exact hall are confirmed with the team invitations. The format is fixed: three teams, one night, real upstream projects.
The floor is open to visitors. Teams eat, they can rest, and their remote communities can help. The people in the room still own the drop.
What “winning” means
The jury does not score a slideshow. They read the code against the assigned feature. Prize money is set for each marathon and published with that edition’s call.
A team that ignores maintainers will not win. The contest only works if the patch can live after the event.
